Belgian experts believe that electronic cigarettes should be sold only in pharmacies
The electronic cigarette is not freely sold outside pharmacies , according to a report by the Superior Health Council of Belgium whose details published on Thursday the newspaper " Le Soir " .
Pulmonologists , oncologists and toxicologists warn of this institution 's presence in those cigarettes " in insufficiently known quantities and whose long-term safety has not been sufficiently studied " toxic substances.
At the same time question the " great diversity of products" that in his view " create different problems in labeling or dosage of nicotine ."
The report notes that the electronic cigarette is sold today as a new means to quit, and as such should also " be subject to safety and efficacy criteria ."
"No products marketed in our country responds to those conditions," Belgian experts warn .
The Superior Health Council further indicates that the effectiveness of this product " is not always tested " against other remedies to stop smoking as gum or the nicotine patch , and you might even keep the addiction to snuff by the " gestural continuity with the real cigarette . "
He considers that the electronic cigarette could be a "Trojan horse for the real cigarette ."
Experts also recommend further studies and " prohibit the assertion that improve health ."
