Vapor electronic cigarettes contain nicotine but not other toxic substances

Scientists at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo (United States ) ensure that those who inhale the steam from electronic cigarettes are exposed to nicotine but not other chemicals that are present in the smoke of snuff , according to the results of two studies which publishes the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research.

Researchers and health officials are questioning the effectiveness of these devices to help quit smoking , while the effects they may have on the health also unknown, both the use and those who are exposed to steam off , because they contain varying amounts of nicotine and some poisons .

To find out more about this topic , the researcher Maciej Goniewicz and his team conducted two studies on passive exposure to vapors from these devices. In one of them, an electronic cigarette used to generate steam in a closed space and then the levels of nicotine , carbon monoxide and other gases and potentially harmful health particles were measured.electronic cigars wholesale

In the second study included five men who regularly smoked both snuff and electronic cigarettes. Each entered a room and smoked his electronic cigarette for two intervals of five minutes in an hour , while researchers measured air quality . The room was clean and airy and the experiment was then repeated with the snuff .

Goniewicz had received funding from a pharmaceutical company with smoking cessation treatments while another author of the study had been funded by a manufacturer of such devices.

Researchers found nicotine levels of 2.5 micrograms per cubic meter of air in the first study , while in the second the levels reached 3.3 micrograms per cubic meter. However, they found that levels were ten times higher in snuff as they were nearly 32 micrograms per cubic meter.

"Exposure to nicotine is lower compared to snuff smoke exposure . And we also know that nicotine is relatively safe compared to other dangerous toxic substances in the smoke of snuff ," said Goniewicz .

The study also showed how electronic cigarettes produced some particles also present in the snuff , but at levels seven times lower , while the amount of carbon monoxide and other gases in the air did not vary with use.

"What we found is that non-users of electronic cigarettes might have been exposed to nicotine, but not to many toxic agents when users of these e- cigarettes are in close proximity ," he pointed this expert , who insists which at the moment is "very difficult" to know the health impact of this exposure and further studies are still needed.electronic cigarette wholesalers

Therefore, Goniewicz points to the need for health authorities to assess the safety of these products and the effects they may cause in terms of public health.
